what to do

i have a 78 short wide 4x4 that i just bought from a farmer. he told me that it dropped a push rod. so i pulled drivers vaslve cover and sure enough one push rod was missing. so i pulled the intake. to my surprise i found one bent push rod in tact, and one half of a broken push rod. i only found one lifter. which i guess that is good. anyone out there have any ideas what might be goin on, or possible damage that may be going on. the motor turns over easy. i guess i'll stick a new lifter and push rod in it and see what happens. any wierd thing i should do to set the valves. also my distributor is frozen it wont budge i took the retaining bolt out, and it is frozen. any ideas from everyone.
thanx
project hope.

make sure the valve is free, stuck valves will bend or break push rods. also turn the motor over by hand and check all the push rods and make sure there are no more bent. if the lifter is out of the hole, make sure it is not damaged. look at the cam lobe and make sure it looks alright.

soak the dizzy with good penetrating oil. let it soak for a couple of days with repeated applications of the penetrant, then just work it easy till you get it to move.

He's right, be sweet to distributor. I cracked the casing on one trying to pop it loose with crow bar. (I was ****ed, and it was late. Should have called it an early night.) Also, if you have a valve stuck or bent, you may have damage to the corresponding piston. It might be worth it to just pull the heads and re-work them.

ok i replaced the lifter and push rod, and turned the motor over, and everything looked to be ok. not really sure how to tell. it moved up and down just like the rest. do i need to re torque the push rod or just leave it alone.

Make sure you get a magnetic drain plug for the engine. They are 1/2" x 20 threads if I remember right. The copper drain plug gaskets are best. The plastic ones aren't worth a damn.
