Does anyone know how to make the day time running lights of a 2001 F250 PSD stay off while the truck is turned on? Fuse? Jumper? Thanks!
P.S. The truck is all done except a leak in the oil pan and a bad tourqe converter. Should be on the road this weekend/early next week depending on the arival of the tourqe converter.
If you are asking what I think you are. Do NOT turn the switch all the way to the left. In order from left to right it should be. Day time running lights, off, running lights, lights, and pull for fog lights. I hope this answered your question.
On a '99 F350 PSD you pull a fuse in the fuse block under the hood. I think it is fuse number 12 but you should check your fuse diagram to be sure. It is listed as "daytime running lights". At least it was on the '99. Saves having to make sure that your switch is in the right position.
Ya, I know about the way you can do it with the reg inside switch... But mine doesn't have that.. Its only : Off , Parking , and Running. But yet I still get the lights always on (only the head lights, not parking and rear). I'll check in the fuse box in under the hood to see if one is labled..
I don't have an ebrake set up.. There is the foot pettel, but not the cable. So I don't know if that would effect it or not. As of right now its pushed down cause its out of the way. Its only there cause it helps hold the ECM in place....
I'll double check to see if the sensor is pluged in or not.. If its not I'll try that. I know for my S-10 thats how I got the running lights to turn off, but thats Chev, not ford, so I didn't figure they'd have the same setup.
Any other ideas, or does anyone have a 2001. If so can you check your owners man. to see if it says anything about it. I still haven't purchased one for the truck yet.
The only mention of the daytime running lights in my owner's manual (2001 year) is a description of what it is. There is no switch - they are on anytime the key is on. Even when the parking brake is applied (I checked).
As far as fuses relating to the daytimes, per the owner's manual:
Fuse #12 in the Power Distribution Box (under hood). Shared with the Fog Lamps.
Fuse #28 in the In-Cab fuse box. Shared with the Brake Shift Interlock, Speed Control Module, Backup Lamps, Trailer Tow Backup Lamp Relay Coil, the Electric Shift on the Fly Hub Lock Solenoid, and the Vacuum pump motor. (And whatever else Ford has thrown in not listed in the owner's manual!!)
The trucks built with the daytime lamps were destined for the Canadian market where daytime running lamps are required by law. This is probably why there is no switch to turn them off.
Looks like you are stuck with them.
By the way, Why do you want them off?
This might not help you any, but pre-99 trucks have a wiring harness behind the driver's headlight that controls the drl's. To disable them, you disconnect the wiring harness, and install a plug on the loose end. Click here for a pic of the plug you need.
My truck was originally licensed in Canada, so it had drl's, but the plug was installed prior to me purchasing it.
I don't know if this helps any, but I hope so.
I have 01 F350 also from the Canadian market with DRL's that will not turn off. If I pull the fuse or unplug the DRL relay behind the drivers light, it also kills the fog lights. Does anyone know how to kill the DRL's and keep the fogs. I keep thinking there must be a way to disable the DRL's and splice the fogs into something else. Anyone have a detailed wiring diagram for lights and relay? Thx

Dragon, which fuse is it that you decided to pull?? The number 12 under the hood? I can understand that not working for you, but I don't have fog lamps so it is of no concern to me.
Thanks for all the help guys.. I do believe mine was from Canada. I know the truck itself was, but I don't know if the cab I got w/ the wiring harness and interior was or wasn't. Good to know though.
As for reason I want to have them off. I just like to be able to pick if I have them on. If i'm out in the woods and I'm drive at night I'd like to be able to leave the truck running and turn them off, or while i'm warming up the truck where ever it may be parked I only want the parking lamps to work.
As listed in the owner's manual, the fog lamps are the only circuit sharing Fuse 12 (Under hood power distribution box) with the DRLs. Since you do not have fog lamps, I would try pulling fuse 12. If everything else works, you are done.
If any other circuit is routed through fuse 12, then Ford should have listed in the owner's manual.
Good Luck!
Hey Quadzilla,
Would you happen to have a part number for that plug or know where to get one. I'm from Canada and I enquired about one at my local Ford dealership and they didn't know what I was talking about and hense couldn't find me one. Could it be that they are only available in the US? Thanks.
