The automatic tranny on my 93 Ford Ranger (4.0L V6) is finally on its last leg (200k miles). This morning on my way to the airport it wouldn;t shift out of 1st. I turned around to head home and get a ride there instead but after sitting at the light and going again it shifted just fine. I hestitated to shift like this the other day as well but finally shifted without having to rest. Several years ago I thought it was the end of it as well when I sat at a light and there was no go but after putting it in reverse and then back again it decided to go and has been fine up to now.

Trying to get any information I can on switching out this transmission. I plan on doing it myself as I have done motor swaps on civics so assume I can handle the tranny on my ranger. Really haven;t had to work on this truck for the 200k miles I have owned. Got lucky some how I guess!

First off, whats my best options for a replacement? WOrth paying for a FORD reman or okay to save the money on getting from another shop and if so what do you all reccomend? How much should I expect to pay?

Now most importantly, is there are articles for the DIY'er?

Since I plan on a total replacement... in your opinion do I have much time left on it or should I just park it until I can do the swap?
