Heater Problems

Alright, today was the first day all year I needed to use my heater, I was freezing this morning. So I started my truck and let it warm up for about 5 minutes, when I got in it was still freezing.. Ok whatever, so I drove about a few miles and it finally started to warm up a little bit. But then I came to a stop light and it starts blowing colder air. I am still freezing so I press the accelerator, and it warms up. It never used to do that, it would blow piping hot air just at idle.

Also the temp gauge is reading higher than usual, not sure if there's any connection there. Any ideas?

Heater core is the highest part of cooling system so check level on coolant first. After that need to check thermostat and then radiator

Sounds like thermostat may be hung open.

I would guess that you're extremely low on coolant. Like someone else said, check that first.

Ok wow, I feel smart now, it was waaaaaay down.

Heres the bonus question: Where did it go? It hasn't been long since I checked it.

Some loss of coolant over time is normal but I would keep an eye on it for the next few days. Sometimes leaks are only at higher rpms so it can be difficult to see so look for stains especially at your water pump. There is a hole at the top of the pump that will leak when your pump is starting to fail. If all else fails most radiator shops ( best place to take a leak! ) will pressure test your system for a small fee and let you know whats going on

I was loseing some coolant through some small holes in the rdaiator. When you park the truck sniff around a little for that fragrant coolant smell. I solved
my problem with two doses of Bars Leak.
