well after 3 weeks of time to break in and two trips to the ol' mud pits we have a 360 thats acts like it is short of what it should be. this is our first engine that has not lived up to what we expected we have build 2 351W a 351M 2 460's 2 360's and a 390 but this one just lacks power bad at takes a long time to wind up from second to 3rd ya might as well forget it the second it hits 3rd it is a dog ....well here is what we did maybe ya can tell me whats the problem here

the engine has been together for about a year but only driven in the last month because we were building the rest of it.
This is the classic example of what happens when you put too big of a cam in an engine with too low of compression. Change it out, and use the Crane 343971 and your problem will be solved. OBTW, you have the timing set at 10 degrees BTDC, set with the vacuum advance pulled from the distributor and plugged when setting it, right?
we did not degree the cam , the card said that to set at o perfect alignment with cam and crank points , and yes we did set the Vac. Ad with it plugged and even tried swithing sides of the carb to see if it made a difference gave us some valve chatter so we set at back at timed advance side of the carb the engine runns around 170-210 ( road to rad. clogged with mud ) but that is not the first time we have heard the cam as the problem ........now i do have to say in the mud low range it has power but what fun is a mud buggy if ya can not drive it around on the road and sling mud on the guy behind ya in his brand new mini van i am gonna take a look at the cam ya suggested and see what the numbers are ........Thanks
hey before i forget i have one more lil' mystery to solve OIL presseure ------- i have been told that 20 Lbs at 1del is normal and that 45Lbs at 3000 RPM is not bad ........ i know fords don't need to much oil pressure. This ain't a suped up race motor but for the most part new the 390 we put together has 60 on start up and stays there so why is our 360 so low ??? as for the cam my brother says we are changing it as soon as he can afford to .....theses damn FE's are tricky boy 2 good 1 bad , i guess ya have to suck it up sometimes and say ya screwed up some where sounds like the cam was a bad choice ...oh well
Heh, that's more than my 360 runs. Mine is 8psi hot idle, 40 hot going down the road. I think a lot of it is lost in the rockers; look at the oiling mods in the FAQ.
