I'm going to go outside and run the fuel pump right onto the battery with a switch on it.
My question is, with my truck not having voltage to the computer between battery and computer and thus no power elsewhere, will hotwiring the fuel pump to run allow it to run? I'm going out to do it..if somebody could give me insight on this. My only worry was that the computer would halt the fuel injectors from cycling. Thanks!
Why Are You Going To Do This? I've Installed A Carbed Engine In My 91 F150 And Have Wired It To Run The Pumps When The Engine Is Supplying Vacumn, So If The Engine Stalls The Pumps Shut Off In 1 To 1.5 Second. But Why Unless You Have Modified Your Truck Would You Want To Change The Way The Fuel Is Delivered?
As long as your computer powers up then it should run. While you are re-wiring, it might be worth your time just to re-wire the fuel pump circuit the way it is designed. Try running the hot wire to the fuel pump relay and see if that makes the pumps come on with the computer's command. If that doesn't work, then there has to be a short between the relay, the inertia switch, the switch in the dash, and the fuel pumps themselves.
I wired in a negative directly to the battery, and a switched positive to the positive terminal with the switch in the cab just below the ignition switch (actual switch).
I'll get the problem wire diagnosed sometime, this truck is only going to be emergency, unless I get rid of it at some point. Though..its not pretty so that's unlikely.
Now I just need to get a liquid tape typ eof thing to put ovr the terminals on the fuel pump. I still have the fuel pump wired up with the relay and everything, its dual wired.
A macgyvered truck is better then an ATV to drive to work with when need be! Not sure if I trust the old girl yet though...
EPNCSU2006 - Thanks for all the help you've given me with my truck's difficulties.
And thank you for all you other folks that have given me a helping hand - it has been greatly appreciated. Pyrobandito and Roger being the other two significant sources of aid! =)
