Hey guys. Recently acquired a free 1972 ford f350 dually with a i6 300 inside. (Aparently atleast, if i'm wrong please correct me)
The owner got it to run a few months back just by putting gas in the carb (been sitting by the PO since 2003.)
Now I can't get it going, I get the engine to turn over but it will not spark. I tried to contact to guy who gave it to me but he's moved away and I can't reach him.
My idea for now was trying to hotwire it to help start it. Before you suggest unplugging the wires under the steering wheel, EVERYTHING has been tampered with. No more key hole switch, bunch of redneck wiring that I'm looking to get rid of, it's a real mess.
Is there a way to hotwire from jumping the solenoid and cause spark? Don't mind if alternator etc don't work, as long as it can start.
Put a wire from the + side of the battery or the solenoid to the + side of the coil. Have clips on it to stop the engine. Disconnect the existing wire to the coil in case it's grounded.
Still if no spark while hot wired, then check points gap of .017 and look for any shorted out condensor wire, or broken ground wire. Also replace dizzy condensor.
