Rotella ELC
I did a search on here for coolant change or should I say switching. Some people were saying do not do it with a pre 99, others say they switched and no problems. I have a 96 and would like to switch out the green stuff. Any ifo on this topics with some facts to back it up? Is it really that detrimental?

From what I have read, it is generally OK to go from ELC to ethylene glycol, but it is not recommended going from ethylene glycol to ELC. It has to due with formulation and compatability with gasket material and engine alloy. It is probably more critical on alloy engines than the iron ones. Ford used ELC in some of the later 7.3s. If I were going to switch, I would go with Ford. It is important to do a good flush and remove as much of the old coolant as possible. You don't want to have a mix of the two. It reduces the coolant's effectiveness.
