I am looking at purchasing an 05 King Ranch 4X4 but have only seen them with the Continental street tires and the dealer who has the one I want is balking at changing the tires before I purchase unless I pay extra. What other tires has anyone seen or gotten on the 4x4 King ranch. I can't believe Ford would put tires like that on a 4X4 vehicle. From the feedback from this forum and others I have not heard good things about the Continental tires and I will not pay that much for a truck and then have to go out and buy more tires. Thanks for any feedback.
I sure hope you guys are talking about SRW 350's, because my 05' Lariat 350 DRW and my buddies 05' KR 350 DRW both were ordered with "all terrain" tires and came with Bridgestone rubber. C-Ya!!
My guess, and it is only a guess, is the tires depend on if you are getting all season as opposed to all terrain. My DWR all terrrain came with Bridgestone's.
All 05 KR SRW will have ContiTrac AT 275x70x18R which is their M&S tire.
Continental does NOT make an All Terrain tire in 18". It ticks me off that Ford charged me $250 for the 18' OWL ALL TERRAIN tire and delivered a street M&S tire on my 4x4. I have been pestering my dealer about this and Fords answer is you get what comes on the truck.
My dealer can't make it right as a full set (5) new "any other brand" for 18" rims costs more than what they got in dealer hold back after my 300 under invoice deal.
so pay a little extra and get better tires if you want better tires. the price that you agreed to pay was for the tires that come on it. upgrade = more $$$
Seems to me that the truck was going to be built with a STANDARD tire and I decided to UPGRADE my F350 SRW 4x4 to the OPTIONAL OWL 275/70R18 ALL TERRAIN for a premium price of + $250.
In the general venacular of tires, there are Highway, All Season, Mud and Snow, and All Terrain, among others. Order guide calls the option All Terrain. Window sticker calls them All Terrain.
What makes it so hard to understand that on my new 4 wheel drive truck I wanted it delivered with ALL TERRAIN tires. I should not have to go spend $800+ for new tires.
I believe, but I am probably wrong about this also, but the Continentals are the all season tire, If you order the Fx4 package and get the upgraded all-terrain tires in 18", you will be told they are not available. I don't believe 18" all terains are readily available in the market yet. I say this, because My new 05 was ordered with the Fx4 package and 18" all-terrain tires. They came back and told me only 17" tires are available with All-terrains at this time. I should take delivery some time early October.
LT275/70Rx18E All-Season BSW Tires is the standard with only two options; BSW or OWL ALL TERRAIN LT275/70Rx18E for an extra $250.
I have been up and down the Continental tree several times and they insist that Ford screwed up by not listing Continental's contract tire as Mud and Snow. Continental does not make an All Terrain tire in 18".
Ford is doing the shrugged shoulder thing like there is no big difference between M&S vs. AT...
I must admit even my 17" all terrain don't look very "all terrain"! I hope to make it through this winter and next summer then maybe I will get something with a more agressived tread pattern.
I work at a dealership and bought an 05 fx4 crew cab with 17's on it and I traded my stock 265 bfg long trails for 285 bfg at's. It cost me about 700 bucks. I too wish ford would put better stock tires on their super duties but oh well. Love my new one, I hope it's half as good as my 03.
The BFG were supposed to be the all terrains, the continentals the all seasons. BFG does not have a 275/70R18E tire yet. They do have 17", that is why the FX4 packages are now coming with 17" wheels I believe. 17" tires for this truck are readily available from BFG, including the Mud T/A, that I have siped and put on in the winter. On my 03 truck I went with the 285's, on the 05 I will go with the next larger size again, not sure what it is yet.
The 17's and 18's are available on any lariat f250, 18's only on f350's. At first there was a supplier issue with 18 availabliity so I opted for the 17's so I could get my truck more quickly. There are no more problems getting the 18's now. There are a lot more 17 in tires to choose from than 18's. The 17 in bfg at's go from 285 right to 315. You can get a 305 in a goodyear mtr. I have been advised that the factory rims aren't wide enough for anything more than a 305. I have seen some of the older trucks with 315's on factory rims and they look good but was told they wouldn't wear evenly due to bulging. I have a buddy who already has 17x10 in rims with 315's on his 05 with no leveling kit. He does get a small amount of scrub but the 2.5 in leveling kit will cure that.
Most of the trucks I've seen here have 17" rims with BFG longtrails even though the stickers shows a $600 charge for 18" all terrain!!! The two trucks that did have 18"'s on them had the cont.. The Amarillo package had them ( my wife want that truck now!) Oh well.
