OK, I looked up the word in the online dictionary...nothing. and I dont have my good dictionary with me. (It is in storage)
Meccenas - Without wealth there can be no Meccenas.
That sentance is where I found the word it is in a report drawn by Andrew Carnegie circa 1889, and I have no idea what Meccenas is.. some type of Utopia or something? some old city that I have never heard of? If you can help please do. Thankyou.
I believe it should be spelled (now anyway) 'Mecenas'. I don't think it's english, but used as such sometimes. It seems to be a way of describing or titling someone or the name of a city/castle. Probably the latter, maybe both. Type in " of mecenas" into google and see if it helps you place it.
The only thing google finds for the original spelling (in english, there are only like 6 findings total though.) is probably the same thing your reading. It even involes Carnegie. I have to assume spelling error in such a case. Good luck.
