My experience is those that use them for day trading add unnecessary volatility to the market.

TD Ameritrade

...is the recent merger of TD Waterhouse & Ameritrade, two of the former big boys, to form perhaps the largest online brokerage.

Never had a problem in 6 years, cheap commissions, executions are instant, but if you need handholding, you may want to pay more & go elsewhere.

I think Scottrade advertises the lowest commissions...$7.00 maybe?

Scottrade for the frequent-flyer account, recently switched to Schwab for the investment account. so far, so good. Still have a small E*Trade account- they run real hot and cold on customer service.

On line trading, hmmm been there done that. Good replies already. I see a mention of day trading here. Ouch. Do not figure on daytrading and retiring early. Remember, those traders on the wall street floor throwing tickets on the floor know the stocks up/down trends before you ever see them on a on line ticker..

My take on investing is , you are better off with some one you can sit and look them right in the eye across a huge mahogany desk, than trusting your money to a on line ticker tape. Lots more accountability and personable that way it seems. ...

In the real world, money hangs with money. There are more big money deals made on the golf course between games, that in most board rooms. And those investment firms guys play a LOT golf. Note here that just because one invests with a investment firm, it does not guarantee one a life of high returns. I just think it will increase the likelyhood of better returns on their dollars invested over the LONG term, than on line investing. jmo tho

James Cramer- what a goofball. A rich goofball, and smarter than a lot of people give him credit for.

Greg 79 f150- pretty accurate remarks on day-trading. tough to make a buck in the current market climate. BUT- just as tough to make any money investing and not learning what ups and downs, what causes them, etc. Remember that from 1969 to 1983, the overall market went exactly nowhere, and the only money made was done buy buying low and selling high. In a typical year, two or three round-trip trades would just about cover all the action for the year.
