I have been having some major light problems with my bronco. Roughly a year ago someone smacked into the rear of my truck on the left hand side in the middle of the night. Ever since I have had some serious light problems.
I have changed everything with exception to the wiring harness. Now I know this is a lenghthy task but my questions are:
1) is there a way to isolate the problem area?
2) where can I find skematics in case I do need to swap out the wireing?
3) Can there possibly be something else that I am missing?
The main problem is with the headlights. They dont seem to want to stay on. I can use highbeems, but lowbeams refuse to stay on. If I hit a bump they will go on or off as if there is something lose somewhere
I replaced the main switch, headlamps, and the rear assemblys, While I was looking over the wiring harness in the engine compartment, I came across what looks like 2-3 small boxes where the wires enter and exit on each side. They look like some kind of fuse boxes yet every garage and auto parts shop tell me that there are no fuse boxes such as these on any Bronco II. I actually bought a book that shows me everything about this year of B2(`88), and I dont even see these in the wiring skematics
So I'm now like wayyy lost, if a picture of these would help I can take them as soon as possible.
I do not know if this is helpful, I am about to undertake a lighting issue myself with an 86 bronco 2. The backup lights are not working. also the electric switching for the 4 wd and the power locks. I have been looking into the 4wd part but had trouble finding the control box for it. I just called my local ford dealer and they said the control box is under the panel over the drivers side rear wheel well. I am about to find out. Maybe this is one of the boxes you are looking at. Hope this helps.
with myne my parking lights stay on any time i have my key in the on or acc pos. so i feel your pain. you may want to see if you have a grounded wire and check all your relays. one of them could be shot. i think my prob is because the previus owner knew jacksh** about wiring. ive fixed about 95% of my electrical probs. but in 4h it shows lowrange and no 4X4 light. both work in lowrange so i know ive got mixed bulbs. i think the dipsh** porlly just put the lights in the wrong sockets though. would explain it. as for parking lights its just bad wiring. so if i was you id just start goround testing your wires. you never know. may not be bad to test your current draw with key off. should be none or well under a volt.anything more than a volt will kill your battery.

First off, make sure the connection from the ign. switch to the headlamp switch is solid.
Second, make sure the harness has not been sliced in the back from the collision. The way it threads through and under the rear qtr makes it easily damaged in a rear end accident (or from rust).
Third, check your grounds.
Headlamps, body to hood, body to exhaust, etc.
Boxes? These are connectors? Two harnesses run across the front of the engine. One goes to the headlamps (right side) and then the other goes to another connector, which in turn goes to the pass. side power locks and windows.
These in turn are connected on the driver's side fender under the hood. You might have to pull the power lock/power window connector out of the fender from behind the w/s washer tank to see it.
Hook a test lamp to the disconnected harness and work through the connector watching what works (hi/low/turn/etc.) and what does not. It is possible that you have a bad multi-function switch in the steering column or a bad headlamp switch.
I would look for a shorted out harness that is nuking the relay when a lamp is used.
