Hey im new here and had some questions on my new (to me) truck. I love the performance market and am into automotive allot (grades 9-12 auto classes and co-op) and am farmiliar with most sports cars but not trucks, that is untill i got my '91 F-150 2WD reg. cab automatic, now im looking for parts and cant find a whole lot for my application. If anyone has suggestions on good quality parts and where to get them that would be great. Also my truck dosnt idle well and i'm thinking of replacing the plugs and wires on the 5.0L, would that solve the problem?
There are a TON of aftermarket parts out there for the 302. Ford also put these parts in mustangs. Check out summit racing, that will give you some ideas.
A rough idle can be caused by an awful lot of things. A tune up is a good first step. If that doesn't work, try pulling the codes. You may have a sensor out of whack.

I was told by a technition to replace all tune up parts except spark plugs. Remove them clean and gap them only. If you still have a problem get trouble codes, even if the check engine light is not on. If theres a bad sensor you could foul out your spark plugs. ( truck wont start with fouled out plugs?) Your thoughts,
thanks
Always start with the tune up......including plugs. If the new plugs foul so badly that it won't run you have much more to worry about. Such as gas or oil soaked plugs. If a sensor is the only thing that fouls them they WILL clean up after it has run properly for a short time (after fixing the problem).
If it won't start, first check to see if your getting spark and fuel. Even a weak spark from bad plug wires will start the motor.......it may run like crap but it will start. If your getting fuel AND spark and just will not start, check the compression and make sure the MAP sensor is functioning.
For just an idle problem, do the tune up (always include o2 sensor and air filter). Clean out the IAC, also checking the fuel pressure wouldn't be a bad idea.
Sorry to but in again. 87 ford f150 runs bad. Tune up is done. Whats the best order to check sensors? IAC,o2,TPS,MAP, then? Thanks The plug in port is damage so i cant check for codes.
