Hey everyone, planin on doing a 6 " lift to my 81 f-250 mudder wether or not i get a dana 60 solid front axle this winter, but right now it have the dana 44 HD TTB up front and i will be droping down all the leaf spring mounting points and buying new shocks (and drop pitman arm as well), but anyway i just need to know how much a pair of drop down brackets for a 6" TTB lift will set me back.
Oh i almost forgot, with a 6" lift will i need to lenghten the driveshafts? I just replaced the driveshafts to work with the 205 t-case and i don't know if i have another rear shaft long enough to work (can i use a longer slip yok) cause i don't want to spend the money on a new on.
I kinda thought that i would have to lenghten the driveshafts, but as for the drop down brackets, would a set of homemade brackets (with all the proper measurements taken) work just as well as purchased ones?
yea, i mean why not? they are essentially the same except you pay for somone to buy the metal, cut it to exact size, drill it, weld it, paint it so that you can open the box on your front porch, go out to the driveway and slap them on!
they will hold up given the right geometry and supports
you shouldn't have to mess with the shafts cause all the trucks i have ever put a 6" lift on (about 15 or so) has never needed new shafts
Thanks, i just wasn't to sure about the strenght of a homemade brackets, but using 3/8 steel i think should get the job done, or how bout using some 2x4 tubing (3/8 wall) fabed to the right shape?
Before i forget, i would just move the pivot point down the same amount as everything else (ex. for a 6" lift move the pivot point down 6")
