Ford ownes shares in Mazda, Volvo, Lincoln, Mercury & Jaguar so it's no surprise. The consumer often pays for cars based on badge and perception of value rather than real cost value. If Ford can flog the escape as a Mercury.. Good-on-them!! More value for us. As a few of the people in this post rightly pointed out... It only helps the consumer choose the right package for them. What they pay for the car is purely dependent on the perception of what it is worth to them. If a mazda devalues less than a ford, a $1.5K price difference when new may translate to a better resell value, but if you are buying a car for keeps, go for the lowest price and the options that suit you.
