this weekend my school is having a drag race. it is all the students and teachers. anyways i would like to know if there are any little tweaks i can do to get the most out of my 97 4.6 auto. its a handicapped race so everyone has a chance but i just want to get the most i can out of it.
Weight is an enemy, if it isnt needed for fuction, it is counter productive.
Things like spare tire, tool boxes, brush guards, tailgate, tools, tire jacks and wrenchs (dont forget the OEM unit), floor mats, cds, and any other misc stuff should be removed. You'd be surprised how it all adds up in weight!
Only use enough gas to get down the track and back, draging on a full tank has a lot of extra dead weight.
Don't run with the AC on, it draws juice from the motor, and don't run with the windows down, leave 'em up, less drag this way. Also leave all electrical stuff turned off, as it will put some load on the motor.
If you have an open rear ended rig with 4wd, you may want to launch in 4wd to elimnate wheel spin, and then quickly switch back to 2wd. If you have a LS rear, you may not need to do this.
Inflate the tires to the max psi on the tire.
Maybe clean/replace your air filter would be a good idea.
