Engine Rings
I have a 300 six in my 82 F150 pick-up. Drove it until it almost would not move it self. Had a lot of blowbuy and coated the air filter with oil. To get more miles out of the engine, connected three feet of heater house onto the oil breater cap and routed it into a reservoir. When I finally got it to the machine shop, am being told that I broke a piston ring or possibly more than one. To my knowledge, this engine has never been opened up and has about 125 thousand miles on it. Have owned it for the last twenty years. What would cause an engine ring to break?

Engine Rings
Got my engine back from the machine shop. All my rings were broken and the castings were beginning to break around the rings grooves. When I asked the machinist what caused it, he answered just old age. Thanks guys for your help. Had to go out to 30 k to clean the holes but the crank shaft was still good. Says it should be good for another 100K miles.
