Smoke at start up...

Hi there guys, I have an 03 F250 SC SD with the V10, it has now 10,000 miles now. I have notice that once in a while when I start up the truck in the morning, a puff of blue smoke comes out of the tail pipe, and then nothing on the rest of the day, this may happen sometimes not all the time, can anybody tell me what is going on, are the valve guides leaking oil? Another thing is, I went to buy 5w20 from the Ford dealer and the guy gave me 7 quarts, and ask him why, it only takes 6, he said that it takes 6 1/2 quarts, is it true? Cause I did put 6 1/2 quarts. Another thing I found is, that when I step on the truck one wheel spins, the right side, so I put it on the jack and had my son hold one tire while I spun the other, I could not make it brake loose, so the traction clutches are working, but how come it does not show it when I step on it from a dead stop, I can see doing the spun when I put it on reverse, then the left tire smoke the tire???? When I turn, I can hear the left tire graving the road, so is my traction lock working, it has to be because I could not broke loose one side when we where trying to turn the tires by hand. Thanks for any help guys.

Could be to much oil in there, check your level.
Also do you do a lot of in town driving? I had a ol 460 when I was in high school and it would puff some smoke every now and then if you didn't get on it to blow it out.

As for the diff, I guess your positive that its a limited slip. Maybe get the rear end serviced at the dealer or at shop with the correct oil and see if that helps. Make sure you check for metal shavings in the old oil though.

I guess I'll have to test it with a bit of water under the tires to see if will spin them like ina burn out. If not, I guess is going to the dealer.

Search the v-10 forum for "puff of blue smoke". Lots of posts and threads on this issue.
