first off.. am I supposed to have a jack somewhere?? If so I cant find one. A buddy of mine told me some trucks have them in the engine compartment.. and I did find a little place in the corner with a wingnut which looked like something mighta been there...but don't know.
and.. is there a trick to useing the lock on the tailgate/back door? My key doesnt seem to fit. It almost seems like I need another key. IS that the case? or is my lock just messed up?
The jack is supposed to be in the engine compartment (on the left when you're standing in front of your truck) and the tailgate lock needs a separate key with oval head vs. the squarey main key.
The wingnut/bolt should be holding a clamp down with the bottle-type jack under it and the tire iron slides down the inner fender right next to it. If you don't have the tailgate key you probably can't lock and unlock the glovebox either. The round key works in both.
The locking tailgate.... On mine 1990 Bronco, you use the round key, the same for the doors, and you put it in the tailgate hole and turning it. It will roll the back window down which allows you to open tailgate.
I had to chuckle on your jack question. I also could not find mine when I first bought my truck a couple of years ago. After I ordered and received my new Hi-lift jack, lo and behold, I found the original jack one day when I was looking over my battery tray. Go figure.
So this a new truck for you? Congrats and enjoy! And don't be surprised if you catch Bronco fever.
Yeah, your key doesn't lock the tailgate, it only operates the window, but that probably doesn't or won't work in the near future, welcome to the adventure. Sorry to hear that your jack has been jacked, I've never had to use mine that's just has well these things are a load to get up with a real floor jack.
