Has any put a aeroturbine on their idi turbo diesel. I really like the way it sounds on the powerstroke turbo diesel, but wonder how it'll sound on my idi.
IF you want to hear it on the powerstroke here's the site. They also have it for other applications.
Well, from what I am reading in the exaust forum, the Aeroturbine and the Hooker Aerochamber are 2 of the best mufflers available. A couple guys picked up about 1 0r 2 Mpg and noticable torque with either one. Though that was on Rangers and explorers with 4.0s I think.
My truck has the factory 3" exhaust and turbo. I know the power increase wouldn't be as much but if I keep the 3" exhaust and then removed the factory muffler and used a 3 to 4" adapter to add the aeroturbine and then after the aeroturbine run a 4" exhaust would it sound good. Or should I just change the entire exhaust over to 4"? I know the power increase will but will it be that significant?
A 200 dollar muffler is out of my league.
Did you notice all the dyno charts were for gas motors?
Also the chart that showed the aeroturbine and a straight exhaust were almost identical on a gas motor.
Ford never put a 3" exhaust on an IDI diesel, not even the 93 - 94 7.3 turbo version.
2.25" ID 2.5" OD is the best they had from the factory. And yeah it may have a 3" tip but that is all.
ATS did make a 3" exhaust for their turbo, but that is aftermarket stuff.
I am running a three inch see through muffler about 12 inches long and dual 3 inch stacks on my 7.3 ATS turbo. I will not believe any muffler will make it run any better. The drawing shows a baffle that has to cause back pressure because the exhaust has to go around it. Back pressure is bad on a diesel if you want power. Besides the turbo is enough of a muffler for me.

For a turbo diesel, if you don't go with an aero, and go straight through, you might as well run no muffler, the straight through still causes backpressure.
I gave them a look. Very nice muffler, I'd say a solid step up from a flowmaster, and being all stainless it should last forever. That being said, I still think a straight thru setup on a turbo diesel is the hot ticket (and a heck of a lot cheaper).
Wouldn't mind trying out two of them on my jet boat though!
I've been running straight exhaust on my truck for years. This year I failed the inspection due to no muffler. No amount of talking would convince the guy that I did not need a muffler. According to the state of Utah's own handbook for inspections there needs to be a muffler OR some type of noise limiting device. I argued that the turbo it's self greatly reduces the exhaust noise and should be considered the noise limiting device. I have 3" run in the normal factory location and is not anywhere near as noisy as the Cummins 5.9 with the Aero in the sound clip on the Aero website.
I even called the state dept. over inspections and they had to look up their own requirements and in the end stated that what it really ment was I HAD TO HAVE a muffler. I told them I do not want a noisy truck but by putting on any performance muffler I would be increasing the noise to a level that I would find intolerable. They are idiots and can't even interpret their own requirements. I finally bought a cheap round muffler, cut it in half, gutted the inside, place the empty halves over my exhaust pipe and welded it back together so it "looks" like there is a muffler.
Good Idea, inspectors are just paper pushers, they are not employed to think, they look, they compare to the book, it's a go or no go. They will never admit they made the wrong decision, good or bad
