I am in the process of un-doing things that previous owners have done. Things like: aftermarket cam installed retarded per manufacture centerline, carb secondaries that don't open, no kick-down rod to tranny, aftermarket valve covers that were over tightened and had holes beat in tops by rockers, trailer light ground wired to the backup lights - the list goes on.....
It has a stock duraspark distributor and electronic box, but by the mauled up screws in the distributor, I suspect that someone has modified the advance curve. I think it may be advancing to much too soon. Given the info in my signature, what would be a good mechanical advance curve to have per rpm - 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 etc.
You would have to remove the screws if the ignition module went bad.
Trial & error is the best way to set advance there are too many variables involved. With todays crappy gas they are pretty much set up right from the factory.
thanks Mark. I have not been successful searching for the 'factory' curve. Would you have any ideas what it is, so I have a base line where ford started from? I would like to know I am close before I start trial and error process.
