Thumbs up New intake need help

Yeehaw! Today I picked up a cast iron 4 barrel intake for an FE for 40bucks! It is hot tanked and ready to go. I measured the ports and they are identicial to my heads. I am wondering though, this intake is diffrent there is an oil fill tube on the left side of the intake which I of course dont have. Also, there is a PCV valve at the rear of the intake. And right near the theromstat opening on the intake there is a large threaded hole that has nothing in it. I dont know what its for but I figured I could just plug it with a large bolt from lowes or something. Does anybody know what car/truck this intake came off and what year it is?

Thanks

The hole you are going to plug is a pipe thread, and as such will require a pipe plug.

Sounds like a 64-earlier intake. The PCV in the rear is actually a fitting to attach a road draft tube, which was the method to evacuate the crankcase fumes before the PCV system came about. To use it, you'll still need a PCV valve between the vacuum source and that fitting.

Thanks for the help. How could I be so stupid? The threaded hole I was talking about is for the fitting for the heater hose. Guess I was sorda tired. Is there anyway to identify the intake by decoding the casting numbers or something?

It was Originally cast for a 64 T-Bird, but doesn't necessarily mean that's what vehicle it was used on from the factory. It could have been on a 64 Galaxie or any other Ford or Mecrury car equipped with a 352 or 390 from the time it left the factory.

That vintage is about the time they started putting a PCV in place of the road draft tube. There's a funky looking tube off the back of the manifold that goes to a PCV and then to the fitting on the rear of the carb. spacer. You can use that setup but I prefer sucking the PVC from a valve cover instead (sounds funny). You can use freeze plugs to block off the hole in the back of the manifold along with the oil fill hole in the front and just use your valve cover holes instead. It all depends on what you want to do and what carb. you are using.
