Herculiner?
Hey Giuys ,
I was considering buying one of those do it yourelf bed liner kits from Herculiner. My question is should I do it or not? I wasnt sure if anyone has had any problems with it peeling off after a while or if its a good product. Any help in making this decision would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
-Chris

Yes, Yes it is my truck,
Like I have already stated though I am limited by my funds, that is why I am considering a less exoensive alternative. My financial situation doesnt allow for me to spend 6-700 dollars on a rhino liner, therefore I asked if anyone had any negative experiences with the product from Herculiner.
Any other help would be appreciated,
-Chris

Mil1ion did a self lining job on his truck. He posted pics of it and it didn't look bad at all. I think he used either Rhino or Herculiner. It's been a while since he did it, so you might ask him how it is holding up. I've thought about doing the same thing to mine eventually, but I have so many other things I want to do and have to try to find funding and then set the priorities.

I used some Duplicolor bed liner (similar to Herculiner) on the inside of my tool box to keep the noise down from tools shifting, ect. It works ok, but it will scratch off and it doesn't have enough texture to it. By the way, if you were quoted $600-700 for a spray-in liner (just the bed, right?) you were getting taken. $300-400 would be about right, but that is still alot.

I just did Herculiner this weekend. If you follow their directions and spend a couple hours on prep work, I don't think it will peel off. But if you use your bed a lot for sharp stuff it probably will scratch. The Herculiner is nicely textured but only about 1/8" thick. I think I might get a bed mat for mine for extra insurance.
I did a lot of reading on Herculiner and for $100 I think it's a good deal if you don't mind putting the work into it. A lot of the Bronco guys and Jeep guys have used it and the worst complaints they have is that it can scratch, and it fades over time.
I've got pics in my gallery if you want to see my 95 with Herculiner.

First thing I did was treat any rust spots with Naval Jelly. I didn't have any bad rust, just surface rust in a lot of the scratches.
From there on I just followed their directions. You wash the bed first, I used Dawn dishwashing detergent because it's supposed to take grease & wax off. After it dried I taped off the border areas like the top & sides of the tailgate and an inch or so down on the outside of the bed rails. If you look close on the before pictures you can see the white masking tape. Then you use the scuff pad Herculiner includes to get the gloss off all the paint. Then I used a leaf blower to blow all the dust off, but you can use a tack cloth or whatever. Then I wiped it down with Acetone, very strong fumes from that stuff.
After that you put on the first coat of Herculiner, starting with the brush in the seams and corners, then use the roller for the big areas. Then wait a few hours until it's not sticky, then do the second coat. I started on the bed rails with the second coat and peeled the tape off before the second coat got dry, it peeled right off and made a nice straight line on the sides, so now I've got bed rail protection too.
You can find the directions on the Herculiner site. When you're done you've gone over the whole truck bed 5 times, but the results are teriffic compared to a scuffed up bed.

linex is what my g-pa has in his truck and it's awesome. can't beat the warranty and it only cost $250. we use the truck for the construction company and go getter for parts & supplies, hauling equipment, and everything else under the sun. it's a 99 F-350 dually 4x4 v-10 Auto. Great truck! but anyways Linex is sprayed on really thinck and is awesome. it's been in there since we bought the truck new. had an incident with our 30' 30000# gooseneck flatbed. while unhooking one of my guys didn't have the trailer jacked up enough (should have done it myself) and it scraped the liner and barely peeled it off. that made me about crap my pants. it dented the bed a little but the liner flexed with it. it peeled out a lil and i took it into linex office and they scheduled a repair free of charge. it looks as if it never happened. Pretty impressed with linex. I'd get linex if i were you. Hope this helps!!!
