Are the functions different in the Lariat to the King Ranch or Harely Davidson Edition? I have the compass, Distance To Empty, Temp, and Avg MPG. Just wondering if other models have more features.
DTR,
That is what I have in my truck, which is a 2003 F250 6.0 Crew Cab FX4x4 Lariat. My suspicion is they are common features to all, with the possible exception of the KR.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if there are any other "add-on" features or not. I Have an XLT, and added the overhead display, along with the temp sensor. All the wiring harness are the same, regardless of the "edition" of pick-up. So I was looking to see if there were other features, that need sensore, so that the overhead comp will pick them up and display them. It would be nice to have an "instant MPG" feature. I have been in other vehicles that have this feature, it it is kind og neat, especially when going through hills and mountains!
It was a very simple install. You have to buy the overhead console, which has the compass all built in, and the out side air temp sensor.
Pull off your console, and unplug the wire. The wiring harness is the same regardless of which model you have, so the DTE sensor, etc is already there. All you need to do is plug the new console in, and push it back up in place. When taking yours out, pry your fingers between the console and the rood liner, and give a little tug. It will come right out.
For the temp sensor, you will have to do a little hunting. I found my wire stuck up by the front drivers side wheel well. It will have a cap on it. It was about directly in the center of the wheel. When you order your temp sensor, it should come with another wire. This will plug into your temp sensor, and make up the extra length to get it to the harness on the pick-up.
It took me about 5 mins, tops to install, after I found my temp sensor wire. Of course I found that BEFORE I ordered it. It wasn't real cheap, though. The temp sensor was about $20, and the console was about $550. I got mine from our local body shop, as most body shops can get OEM parts cheapeer then going directly to Ford.
Let me know if you have any other questions/problems, and I'll try to help ya.
Don't you currently have an overhead console with map lights in it? If so, there is no trimming involved. Its a "plug and play" feature. If you don't have the console with map lights, then I'm not sure. I would assume that the wire is there, but I don't know. I had map lights, so it was real easy to find the connector.
DTR, we still need to hear from a King Ranch owner!
DTR,
I have a strong feeling we have all Ford intends us to have from the overhead, but it would still be nice to have a King Ranch owner respond with a yes/no answer as to what their overhead gives them.
We will see if someone chimes in.

I have an 04 250 King Ranch crew cab. Sounds like the console is the same as those in every other Lariat model. Temp, Compass, Ave MPG and distance to empty. (my wife has the same features in the overhead console in her Expedition)
The only real difference in the KR is the badging and Castano leather seating and accents. I must admit that they are the nicest seats I have ever had in a truck. I got the KR package for a great price. Last one on the lot and they were motivated to make room for the 05s. The 6.0 is the best part about the whole package. I have a company car and I still drive thr truck a couple of days a week just for the fun of it.
