new taurus same problems

I just read the lastest car and drivers test on the new taurus and it seems to be a pretty unimpressive unit. If ford hoped to reclaim the title of having the best selling sedan they are gonna have to do alot better than that. C&D complained for a course guttlass engine and unimpressive handling. I hope the quality has improved over the last one or its gonna have nothing going for it at all

Why can't Ford spring for a Camry and a Maxima and figure it out?

Camry: Dull, but trouble free.
Maxima: Woo Woo Woo!!!!! Power and sticks to the road like glue.

The Taurus ain't that far off the mark--are they satisfied with rental fleet sweetheart status?

I'm going to have to disagree with the above.

I'm a truck guy at heart (in all honesty I hate cars, except fast ones ), and have drove a ton of cars, not because I wanted to, but becuase I had too, including many imports and such.

I really dont understand how anyone can say that the imports have such great cars, they are ok, but not "great" in my book.

My wifes '00 Taurus, even equipped with a so called "gutless" 3.0L vulcan is a fun car to drive IMO, and one of the few cars that even appeal to me at all.

It handles quite well for a midsize and gets decent MPG for a midsize, sure, it's not going to set any land speed records, but it does quite well at speeds over 75 mph, especially with the 16'' wheel option that Taurus has.

And not to mention how inexpensive they are to pick up in a low milage used vehicle!

For me it serves my purposes quite well, and I am extremely happy with mine.

When was the taurus EVER impressive? Had lots of cars but the taurus has been the one with the most problems. And i consider myself very luck with it compared to all the nightmares i have heard. LOTS O' Transmission failures! Not to mention the common front end vibrations that dealers pretent that they never heard of before. Which reminds me, why is it that dealers have all the computers with info on every car serviced but NEVER look up the common problems? I cannot tell you how many times i have had to insist that they not replace a part when i know it was not the problem for a 4th time because I know the likley problem from reading on the net. They replace a part and i drive off and notice nothing has been fixed. Sorry, just needed to vent on that one... 3.0 motor has been good to me and the space of the wagon is good.

OK, you need not drive a Camry to compare to a Taurus. Just imagine your Taurus running and running and running.....

Now, you really should try to drive a Maxima back to back with the Taurus. The power and handling differences are quite noticable.

What I'm saying is there is little reason a Taurus shouldn't run with a Maxima--it cain't be that tough if Nissan, of all outfits, can do it.

Been there done that.

I wasn't impressed by the car, and I sure wasnt impressed by thier price tags either.

One man's POS, is another's Caddy.

It will be interesting to see what you folks think of the Five Hundred that's on the way to Ford showrooms as we speak. Volvo's top platform, continuously-variable transmission, more room than a Crown Vic. Can't wait to get my hands on one!

Really? I had a '93 minx and thought the rental fleet special Maxima was a dramtic improvement. I had a 3.8 which ran pretty good not not as good as that Nissan cammer.....

Anyway, you're right about price....I think they were a bit north of a ford.

Also, that 500--should that be a Fjord 500?
