My 289 motor is running good except for annoying hesitation while accelerating of course. I put a tank of hi octane in and it seemed to help but did not eliminate it. I have not gone into the carb, a Holley 570 cfm 4 brl. My neighbor thinks it might be in the linkage for the accelerator pump, but not sure, I need to look at what he is reffering to.
A few things to check, pretty much a system type checkup, the pressure and quantity of fuel supply, air and vacuum leaks around the carb and intake manifold, and vacuum lines, if you have a closed system check the PCV and breather cap. Vacuum advance on the distributor. Once those are known good, then start looking at your carb for setting changes or internal problems.
Good hunting
