I want to take advantage of the 2004 rebates so I am interested in purchasing a 2004 250 Superduty Supercab. I am having a hard time deciding between the V8/V10 engine though. In the past I drove a Dodge 1500 Ram w/ the 5.9L engine and wasnt very impressed w/ the acceleration or towing. I occasionally tow between 5-10K pounds (boat) and will plow w/ the truck. I have heard people complain in the past that the Fords V8 was a little small but I am also concerned of the v10's gas mileage. Will appreciate any help.
Wow, well thats a large range for your boat's weight. If on that certain day your boat decides to weigh 10,000 lbs, remember you are not only towing the boat but also any gear and other people in the truck. The 04 5.4 is rated for somewhere around 9000lbs towing. Also, what kind of terrain will you be towing over - more hills you might want that xtra power. The 5.4 could probably do it, it'll just be working a little harder.
Go for the V-10! The gas mileage is not much different, but the power is! I drive a
2002 F-250 Superduty V-10 Six speed Reg cab 4x4,and get between 12-14 mpg.
I also have the 4.30 gears and regularly tow 5000-10,000lbs with no trouble at all.
My friend has a 2004 F-250 Superduty 5.4 auto Reg cab 4x4,and gets 13-15 mpg.
You know what, if you cant decide on which gasser and you want good performance, there is only one real answer! - Forget em both!
Yeah, you know what Im talkin about
I have the V-10 and would like the 6.0
So if you are choosing between the 2 gasers, I would say go with the V-10.
Good luck
You should be able to get a great deal on an 04 V-10
I have the V8 and it does well but for the peace of mind get the V10 and know you are ready for a heavy load. just my .02
by the way my next one will be an oil burner
I would reccomend the V-10 for towing but I also say do yo-self a favor and test drive the diesel. Then you will realize that diesel is the only way to go. I have blown away single cab dodge hemis with my chipped crew cab long bed 4X4 at the race track. I'm sure mr. jdadams will tell you the same thing.
Thanks for the input......would consider the diesel but the price tag is a little too steep for me. At the present time I can pick up a new 2004 v10 sc xlt for around $27k.
