2004 v10 or v8

V10 All the way
I just picked up a F250 4x4 V10 about two weeks ago. I have already towed with it and I can tell you it made all the difference in the world compared to my 98 5.4 V8 that I had. If your towing at all Diesel is perfect but like you the price tage was just not in my budget..........stick with the V10, you'll be glad you did!

The msrp for the 2004 was $35700.....invoice is around $31500 minus $4500 in rebates would bring total to around $27000. I will definitly try buy it for $26000 though. I am not sure how far Ford has been going under invoice.

I have a 2004 V10 and it is a great truck. Of course, I get the biggest possible gas engine - so keep that in mind.
My father had a 2003 5.4 truck and eventually got rid of it because it was underpowered - not too great for towing.
My vote would be V10 and 4.30 gears - the gears really don't sacrifice any driveability and they have a better tow rating than 3.73s.

If you want to go with a gas motor the I would definitely go with the V10. If you want to do a lot of towing, or plan on keeping the truck for a long time, then you might consider the 6.0 l diesel.
