I have had nothing but problems with my 2004 F-350 Crew Cad Lariat FX4 truck and Ford cannot fix them - Dont get me wrong - I love FORD TRUCKS but this one is a painful letdown right now, it only has 11,500 miles on it
1. Stalling when appraching stop signs, going into reverse, just after starting and proceeding forward - 3-4 times now
2. Engine power loss - going 60mph then power dropping and not being able to go but 30 mph - 2-3 times now
3. Starting issues -took 15 min other morning to start - this morning at 45 degrees started like it was -20 below out - my gosh the MN winter is not here yet - I amy be in trouble!!
This is the 2nd day this week ford has had in and still cannot tel me anything - they say "oh well we dont see anything that's wrong with it?!' -
DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THESE SIMILAR ISSUES AND IF SO WHAT DID YOU FIND OUT - I AM FRUSTRATED!!!!!!

Reason: Plea for help
First off...Welcome to FTE...then take a deep breath and relax a little bit. Seems you are definitely more than frustrated.
Without more info we can only sling a few ideas at you so please provide the following:
Engine build date - found above the driver side valve cover toward the cab. May need a flash light. Will look like this...10/03/2003
Is one dealership involved with repairs or have you visited multiple dealerships?
Where are you located?
How many days in the shop?
Is everything documented?
FYI: We have seen fixes for almost all of your stated symptoms. Though most don't have all of them. Could be one / two issues are creating all of your symptoms. Could even be a problem of inexperience @ the dealership.
The only thing I have not seen before is the going into reverse after going forward. That is a new one I think.
Please be prepare also to provide you VIN when Tim or PSD asks for it. They will be able to then take a peek at what the techs are writing up in regards to possible repair attemps.
Build date is 3/04 - That is on the truck - not the engine - I would have to wait cause it is in the shop again today -
only 1 dealership is involved
Located just northwest of Minneapolis, MN
2 Times in the shop(both this week) - waited till these things happend a few times so the computer would flag issues
Yes everything is documented
I have called FORD Customer relations and filed a concern/complaint with this particular vechile
BTW: When you next speak with your dealer ask if they have Ford certified diesel techs?...How many?...How many years of experience? Who has been working on your truck?
If they cannot / will not provide the right answers you will need to get away from there at a high rate of speed.
IMO, they should be very happy to brag about their diesel techs unless they are hiding something.
Thank you for your advice- I do know that they have diesel techs there cause they leave at 4pm everyday cause I was going to bring it in yesterday - But I will ask about there experince - should I talk to the service manager about these issues and ask him/her about the experience level of their diesel techs??
I am taking it to Morries in Buffalo - They actually sell a lot of SD trucks their - But if they dont figure it out I will try another place - but will boyers cover ford waranty?
I have been told by one of the dealerships here (Salt Lake City/Ogden) that Ford is recommending the 10W30 on the 6.0 especially when "driveability" issues have arisen. This same 10W30 recommendation has surfaced on the FTE in the past- However, my interpretation is that many of the people on this forum live in hot areas (Texas, Deep South, Utah, Nevada etc) where a heavier grade of oil (15W40) is warranted in the summer.
The dealership says that the 6.0L diesel calls for 10W 30 oil - I have alwasy ran 15w 40 in these during the summer months -
Is this true????????
Hey There,
Alright, so the issue of gasser techs being put to work on diesels was just again found in another post today. I gave him the same advice, I'm about to give you. Low and behold, just after he asked, they firgured out what was wrong with his truck. HUmm what a coincidence.. I think not.. Alright, look at the tech number on your invoice. Go up to the dealer and ask to see the techs crudentials. If they will not let you see them. Trust me they have a gasser tech working on it, and more than likely he is causing just about everyone of those probs. RUN to another dealer. I'm serious! They will do much much much more harm than good. If his record says he is ANYTHING BUT a full diesel tech, not a diesel maintanence tech, put your 7000lbs beast in drive and start pushing! By the way, YES you are suppose to have ONLY a diesel maintenance tech doing ALL of your maintenance. NO OIL CHANGERS ALLOWED!!! Oil changes have been know to over fill the trucks and cause foaming in the injectors. HUGE PROBLEMS are the result. I will also give you the same story I give everyone else. Buddy of mine had his truck at his dealer for 21 days, and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. He found out that they had a gasser tech working on it. He told them he was filing with the board, and within a week of telling the dealer that, they wrote him a check for 21 days lost wages, and that month's truck payment. They knew they were in big trouble. The day he found out about the tech, he took it over to my dealer. In 4 days they had it diagnosed and rebuilt the heads. I just spoke with him the other day and he had put thousands of miles on his 6.0 since and it still runs better than when he drove it off the lot.

By the way.. I use Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 in my 6.0. I also used it in my 7.3 I'm from missouri where we have 110 in the summer and -5 in the winter. This oil personally does the best job I've seen in trucks. They start easier, the egt's are lower, you can test your oil at 10k miles and usually get 20kmiles out of one oil change, AND my fuel average on both trucks went up about 1-1.5mpg when I switched.
Best luck I have had is to find a dealer with an actual "Commercial Truck Shop". A shop dedicated to heavy trucks, whether you see Fords or Internationals inside don't worry. International built our PSD's first so our Ford Commercial Diesel Techs work on them also. These heavy truck shops inside the Ford dealers are usually way out in the back of the service shop and will even have their own Commercial Service Manager and their own team of Diesel techs on full time. Good luck and just be patient, if it's under warranty they will fix it free.
