Hi guys. I recently ordered a 2005 F 550 for the purpose of putting a dump body and plow on it. I got it with the automatic and the hot shift PTO provision. I asumed you would be able to run a dump body pump off of this PTO. Turns out it only makes 80 foot pounds of torque and the pump need at least 120. So I'm in a bit of a bind. I've never had much luck with electric lifts and was hoping to avoid one. The other option I have is to go with a central hydrolic pump off the motor, but I don't know if one is made for a F 550. Could use some help if any one has any ideas?
6 ton is probably a normal load for us, however there will be a couple times its overloaded for a short local trip. Maybe up to 8 or 9 ton. Its rated to haul 6 tons and I know its not legal to haul more, but in the real world it does happen from time to time. On my 1 ton Dodge dumps I load them to 16k or so and there only rated for 11k. Most times these kinds of loads are only between job sites or even around the job site itself. I'm not taking these loads on trips over a mile.
Our F-550 is the smaller one of the two that were offered and has the 17,500# GVWR (I believe the larger on had a 19,000# GVWR if I remember correctly)......but the truck weighs in right about 10,000# empty...
from what I've been told by the dealer the 05 can get up to 19,500 GVW from Ford( It has a 7k fronat axel and a 15k rear). He said its rated for 12,000 payload(6 tons). I know from past trucks your always able to squease a couple extra ton on for SHORT trips. I'm talking about around the jobsite or imbetwean job sites that aren't far apart. The dealer I bought from told me that the trucks are rated(by ford) at least 20% below what they are able to handle because they know people will do what I'm talking about. So thats where my numbers are coming from.
as far as the auto and the PTO which is my problem. There isn't any PTO out there according to the dealer and body company that can run on it. The PTO only puts out 80 pound feet of torque currently and the PTO's for dump bodies require a min. of 120. After talking to Ford today I was told they are working on a fix to inrease the torque available to the PTO. However they said its going to be October or later when its ready. So right now my truck is sitting.... I was hoping someone knew of a central hydraulics system that worked on the fords. So far no luck.
