I would just like to know what to look for. My 92 3L aerostar surges when you first start it up. after it has been running for a bit or you put it in gear it runs normal. What can this be the only thing I could see is it has something to do with cold idle.

Two things that it could be are a bad ECT sensor or a bad idle air control valve. The idle air control valve sometimes gets dirty and a good cleaning will fix it. Also, if the ECT fails such that it indicates a temperature that is normal, the cold idle will be poor. Look at the "Cold idle on 94 Aerstar" post a few messages down.
