Why all the C6's?!

Why did Ford use the same name for 30 years of different C6's? My beef is that if an FE C6 only fits FEs and an other models only work on other c6s then they should be named something else! At least they could have called them the C6a, C6b, etc. Bottom line. Anything named C6 should be able to be replaced by any C6. Is that so hard?

That sounds almost as hard as just learning and knowing which bellhousing will bolt up to what application, simple enough for me.

Just because a tranny has a different bellhousing doesn't mean that it's a different tranny internally. I think what they're doing is fine.
