Explorer 98 Rear brake question
I have a 98 Xplorer and I sent it for a revision last week. the garage told me that I should have the rear brake pads and disks changed. these are the originals and are 70000 kms old.
The guy tols me that it would cost me 700 € (about $750), which seems a bit too much for me (it's in France and they are real thief when it comes to parts for foreign cars
)A friend told me that the brake disks showing only a small track (1/2mm deep, and 1 cm wide) didn't need to be replaced, the brake pads only would be enough.
I've found good deals for the parts in UK so I can get everything from there but I'm wondering who's right....
Should I change everything or only the brake pads??
Thanks for your help
Denis
The parking brake shoes are trouble. There have been some postings here regarding aftermaket parts. The Ford dealer charged me $120 for mine.
For light duty driving, I'd just throw some pads on there.
Good luck.
Actually it was more 1 or 2 mm deep than half a mm deep
But I guess you're right, I will replace the disks when they will be really worn out.
thanks again guys!
Denis
