Hey people, Ive seen a few SD around that have the badgings on the fenders and the tailgate look like chrome instead of the black??? You guys have any info on how to get those badgings or how its done??? Thanx
They are the same badges, only wiped clean with acetone. Under the black paint lies lots of shiny stuff... do a search and you will find a lot of instructions on how to safely do it. (that is safe for your truck) (well you too i guess) (ah hell, you get the idea)
Lately, I have seen a few custom badges on the Internet that have the polished finish. There is a post in the 7.3 about those, I think. More commonly is the acetoned badge, which removes the black finish on the stock badges to reveal a shiny look. Do a search for "acetoned badges" and prepare to read for a while.........
I acetoned mine this past weekend. Easy. Taped off on the body around the badge, then taped a 30 G. trash bag around the badge for splatter. I used carb cleaner a toothbrush and a rag.
BTW.. that Thread you linked to of my questions and concerns.. My 01 Has plastic badges and I was not able to clean/shine them up with acetone. Since the discovery of that.. I'm still in the search of some Metal ones for replacement.
The acetone worked excellent on my 02 and my brothers 03. But beware, the XL or XLT usually comes off with the acetone. The Lariat will stay. You can order the XL or XLT stickers for $8.00 a set. Which I had to do. But it's worth the look. I get asked where I got them about once a week.
Here are the pictures from my truck. They are in my gallery as well.

I did the acetone thing with mine, used brake cleaner, then went a step further and took my trailer hitch cover (blue ford oval) and dipped it in paint stripper, them buffed it out and waxed it. Now matches all the others for that chrome look.
I purchased new badges and 'Ford' ovals on the internet that have LED lighting inside and makes them light up at night. I don't remember where I purchased mine, but I did find a store that sells them if you're interested. Mine look really good at night, especially the Ford ovals (grille & tailgate). Here's the link & I'll put the link to the store where I bought mine when I run across the receipt: www.autobarn.com <-- I didn't purchase from Autobarn because I think they're overpriced, but they have some of them.
That's some of them. They're made by two different manufacturers (if I remember right) I know the Ford ovals were made by Lumi Logo. I don't remember if the F-250 Super Duty logo was also made by them. I just removed the front Ford oval to find the name of the mfr. I can't remove the ones on the side without damaging them. You have to run a small wire from the taillights/parking lights to power the logos. They look really good at night though. They're not overbright, just a very subtle glow. I like them. The 2 websites you listed don't show the 'F-250' etc logos though. I've been looking through e-mails trying to find the receipts but not yet. I'll post once I find them if you're interested. Let me know, otherwise I won't bother looking.
