clutch release

can anyone tell me ,how much movement of the slave cyl. does it take to make the clutch fully release? i am having trouble after installing a rebuilt cluth kit.i have full pedel, with no slack or freeplay, but still can not get it to shift into any gear with it running. i had it rebuilt locally ,and the builder says it needs nearly an inch, but can not get that much. any thouhgts?

I just had the same problem. In my research I found out that you can build a home made gauge and stick it in the hoel where the fork for the throw out bearing are. Get a buddy to depress the pedal and you need .53" of movement just inside the bellhousing. That worked out to about an inch at the slave cylinder pushrod.

I had more than that, the problem was my throw out bearing was travelling right through the pressure plate. D'oh! So I got to bench press a T19 and a transfer case this weekend.
