I was greeted with a slightly larger than pin-head paint chip on the hood of my Oxford white '04 Screw last week. I would like to get the factory touch up paint, but know they will gouge me at the dealer. Any ideas where to get it cheaper? None on ebay..
Also, all experience I have had with these paints in the past was that they stop the paint chip from getting bigger or rusting, but they look blotchy. Any tips for application would be great.
i picked up a tube at the dealer for i think $5. I patched up chips with just enough paint to make it flush with the rest of the paint. This might take two applications (let the first one dry). After a few wash jobs I don't notice the covered up chips anymore.
Now for the chips on my bumper, which promptly rusted , I'm not sure what to do there.....
I was watching Horsepower TV one day and they showcased a new product that was made specifically for touch-ups. It had an applicator, a little twist-sander, and a little bit of polish/wax. They said to be sure to first make the touch-up area of paint higher/thicker than the normal paint surface, then use the little sander to make it even, polish and was, and it lookes good as new! I would have been timmid to do that, but I saw it with my own eyes...sorry, can't remember the name of the company that makes it, but it was pretty well knoiwn, I remmeber that. Try to google it.

If I'm not mistaken, Mothers makes this product. Mothers does make a kit to use with factory touch-up paint and I think this is it. If it's from Mothers, it's gonna work.
I have two-tone paint and paid $6 for each bottle from the dealer. I have touched up small chips on the bumper. Apply a dab at a time covering only the chipped area. Let it dry between applications. It may take two to three applications to make it even/smooth with the surface. After a day or so, clean and wax/polish the area.
I use Levine automotive. They fill 12 oz spray cans with the exact match paint. Granted it is not cheap, but it works better for the larger areas then those little bottles, which they also sell. Their paint is as close a match as it can get. http://www.levineautoparts.com/spraycanofto.html
There is a product called langka. You apply the touch up paint so it is higher than the surrounding surface. Let it dry a half hour. Then put the langka on a cloth that is wrapped around a plastic card. Then rub the paint blob untill it is even with the surface. Then polish.... like new! It works, I use it regularly on chips and scratches. Murrays auto parts sells a Mothers version, but it is still called langka. Try it you will be sold.
