2.9L, trouble reading codes
I am trying to get a 1986 Bronco II running which has sat idle for about four years. We found that the fuel tank and in-tank pump were badly corroded so we have replaced them. We also replaced the filter cartridge and the high pressure pump. The engine started and would idle, but a little rough. When rpms were increased there seemed to be some missing on at least one cylinder. As the next step I decided to dump the codes to see if there were any obvious things that needed attention. I hooked up my analog VOM as the manual(s) described but can't seem to get any codes. When I first connect the VOM the needle immediately moves to ~ 12 V. When I turn the key to "on", I get one sweep from 12V to OV and back to 12V. I've triple checked everything. Barring a blatent hookup error, is there another possible explanation? A friend suggested that this could indicate a problem with the computer.
Thanks in advance.
I could not get any codes from it. i found that i had to run the motor for a wile till my check engine lite came on again. then i shut it off and i could hook up the code reader and get the codes finaly. but unhooking the code reader after reading the codes will erase the codes so make sure you are ready,
good luck,
