yea yea, i know, im insane. but who cares, im going to have the 1st turbocharged aerostar, as far as ive found anyways! ok heres the idea, ive been on the web for about a week or 2 looking up supercharger ideas. well ADMIN NOTE: Do not even hint the f-word here. This is not a bar, it is a public forum., way too much work. well i found a thread for a low compression setup, so ill be doing that and then i read about flipping 1 of the exhaust manifolds upsidown so that the flange is facing the front of the car. well i figured if its low enough i could bolt up a turbo to that and then run my i/c piping from there, and now that ive converted my fan to electric, i have plenty of room for an i/c about the size of a powerstroke's! what i was really wondering was, instead of reprogramming my computer and upgrading the whole fuel system. has anyone thought about a carb setup? that way you dont have all that bulky intake manifold in there, and i can just adjsut my fuel by a few screws and a bigger fuel pump. as for waste gate/ bov, i was thinking maybe a apex controller could handle that on its own. but as far as the rest of the sensors go, would the engine even run if i didnt have the injectors and things plugged in? well let me know what you think, whether its a bad idea or not, bash me all you want. i just need a verdict. thanks
I had read an article about Turbos mounted behind the CAT. www.ststurbo.com
At least according to the marketing hype, it simplifies the underhood plumbing to a great extent. As well as lower underhood temps.
From what I've seen, there is much more space behind the cat then there is under the hood.
well theres a thing called turbo-lag, and if the turbo is behind the cat, im going to need nitrous to get the rpm's up high enough to spool it up. then by the time it reaches the intercooler and then to the intake...even if i had a 200 shot its still going to be tons of lag. good idea about the lower temps though. maybe i could mount it back, but id have to cut out the floor board right? well thanks for the advice, ill check out that link.
I'm not sure about the 4.0L but I've yet to find an intake manifold that will bolt to a carb for a 3.0L, If you want to go with a carb, you'll probably have to fabricate your own intake manifold.
