Changed my first Airfilter last night after 20,422 Miles. And OMG what were they thinking! I thought I was gonna have to remove the engine just to change the filter, what a joke.............
Please expand, I had to remove the intake from the turbo forward and THEN I broke one of the tabs of of my FILTER! So now I have another one on order and when it comes in I have to change it again..............
Let me find it... someone has posted it here...
it involves undoing the far back tube at the back of the intake and taking the whole unit out ...
and swapping the filter on the ground, then putting the whole unit back in...
much easier...
I solved the problem by replacing it with a K&N FIPK. It takes about an hour to remove, wash, dry and reoil the filter. It provides superor flow with equal filtration!

Yes, it's much eaiser to remove the aft air filter housing and inlet tube, then remove the filter.
That's how I did it This way also give you a chance to inspect the turbo and look for any chafing wire bundles.
Kinda funny, when I brought my truck home I looked it over pretty good......saw the clips, figured straight up and out..... .....engineers....didn't take long to figure this out....nope.... ....ah...wellll..... .....it has to come out... ....not bending my pride to read the owners manual......ah....welll....ok....just take it out as unit... .....guess I was right.... Hope the engineer that came up with this bright idea is out of work.
Boy oh Boy,
Am I glad to have found this thread! I have not changed my air filter yet, but it is due for a service this weekend! This would certainly be a frustrating first encounter without reading this post, and following the link jdadamsjr. posted!
Thanks,

when u do get the filter out, chop the tabs off the bottom of the pipes so u dont have to worry about it again. once u do that it comes right up and out.
