I have a thermactor (air pump) that pumps air to the cat through the Air Diverter valve under certain conditions. My cat melted and I replaced it. I suspect it fried the 2 check valves that are between the Air Diverter Valve and the cat. I hear a small exhaust leak on that side of the vehicle and with the air tube disconnected at the Air Diverter valve there is air coming up the tube from the cat. I think the check valve should prevent this from happening.
Anyway, the check valves are buried above the exhaust and are almost impossible to reach. In addition, the air tubes are mounted with small muffler clamps that will be impossible to remove without cutting which means I will probably destroy the air tube(s) in the process. They are expensive and hard to find.
I am wondering if adding an additional check valve up top by the air diverter valve, and just leaving the old ones in the line will hurt anything. Any comments?
I hear what you are saying about doing it right, but I live in my RV full time and don't have an abundance of special tools. Bending pipes is not in the cards so I have to fix this thing with the tools that are available to me and sometines that means the best I can do under the circumstances.
