water temp

What is the correct temp thermostat to install in a '89 Bronco 351?

I'm running, and been running a 180 and no problems, but I heard something about a closed loop mode, and was wondering if this could be why I'm only getting about 7-8 mpg.

Could be. I don't recall the temp that the temp sensor has to read before the PCM drops in to closed loop. Someone here knows though. If you don't see an answer here shortly, check with the engine forum.

I have a 351 also and run a 180 t-stat but I get around 14 mpg.... the normal t-stat on mine should be a 190 but I like the 180 better.... I have heard anything below the 180 will throw it in closed loop but then I have heard a few argue that the 180 will also... I can only say that It works for me just fine!

I'm not sure if I should bump up to a 190. I'm about to change out my housing to a newer on with a port for my after market temp sensor, so while I'm in there, I was wondering if I should change it out.
