Hey Fellas need your assistance on the removal of the tailgate emblem. Does it need to totally come off to apply new decal? I noticed from past threads that it was removed by heat, (Blow Dryer or Heat Gun) is this the only way to remove this without causing damage to the paint? How did you remove the clear plastic shield around the emblem itself? I'm trying to do this with the least amount of impact to my Baby if you know what I mean. Any help you guyz can pass on would be greatly appreciated!
What are you planning on doing to/with the emblem? A few folks have removed the emblem, but it leaves three holes exposed. I guess what I'm asking is what is your desired end result? Are you looking to acetone them? Are you looking to put an overlay decal on them?

I'm doing what you guyz actually did to yours. BTW, I like how yours turned out, sharp emblem! I have the overlay but before I go pryin on it I wanted to make sure that this was the only way of removing the emblem. I read your earlier threads about the use of acetone and heat but wasn't sure if that was necessary. was it easy to remove the clear cover from the emblem itself?
What you see in my gallery is an emblem overlay decal. It's just a high quality (fat/thick) sticker that's placed on top of the emblem. It's like putting a sticker in the back window ... but a it's more of a heavy duty sticker. No emblem removal is necessary!!! It just sticks on top of what's already in place. Did you buy custom decals from someone like Ivan of www.zDecal.com?
Mine was the same way as Gordo. You don't need to take the old one off at all. I bought from Ivan and it looks look great. Its not hard at all to apply.

Gotcha! I was thinking from lookin at your previous post that you had removed it totally , pulled the clear plastic off, and put you Hookum' Horn on top of the Blue Oval and resecured the original clear piece. It looks as though you did it this way from the clear shine as if the clear plastic was now over your horns as if it was factory installed. Thanks for your help everyone.
****, if you do a forum search on emblems you will see Gordo's and a few others post and their detailed description to the Overlay Decals we are discussing. I think they talk about the holes under the emblem as well.
The tailgate emblem has three holes behind it! It has to be attached somehow, right!? You can see behind the front grille emblem by opening up the hood, etc.
i am talkin about the f-150 emblem on the tailgate not the ford
****, I also am curious about the F-150 emblem on back. I know the "Ford" oval has holes, but can the F-150 (and the side emblems) be taken off without having holes beneath them?
