Intermittent O/D Light Flashing

I'm sure this question has been asked before but I'm going to ask it again anyway. I have a 2001 F250 V10 with the 4R100 trans. Lately I have been noticing that between a dead stop to about 35 mph the trans seems to be slipping or shifting in and out of 2nd, it's hard to tell. When cruising at highway speeds I don't seem to notice it. Recently my O/D light started flashing and the truck damn near wouldn't move. I pulled over, shut the truck off, waited a few minutes, started it back up and the light quit flashing and the truck seemed to run fine after that. WTF over. The O/D light only flashed that one time so far. As far as the 0 to 35 mph problem, I experience it almost daily. When the truck is acting up at low speeds, the O/D light is not flashing. I'm getting frustrated trying to figure it out. I haven't taken it to Ford yet, because I know the truck will act fine when I take it. Anybody experience anything similar?

trans trouble help

sometimes just a good flushing of the fluid will solve the problem also. make sure you get a flush and just not a pan drop change.

Rear diff speed sensor as FortyFords suggested.

I wouldn't get into a messy and expensive fluid change/flush until I did that first.

I wouldn't spend money on any parts until I knew what code was stored in the computer's memory. The code will stay in memory even if the OD light isn't flashing anymore. You need a Ford specific scan tool to read transmission codes. Most generic scan tools won't do it.

I took it to a Ford dealer yesterday to check on getting a scan done, but they told me that they couldn't check it since I have a chip installed. I explained to the shop forman what the trans seemed to be doing and he said the VSS would be a good place to start. The VSS only cost me $24 and some change, tax included, so I'll give that a try first.

FortyFords, Waxy, Big Orn.....

I gave the VSS a try, but as my luck (no luck) would have it, the sensor did not correct the problem. At times when I put it in drive and press on the gas pedal the tranny seems to hesitate. When I get rolling and the rpm's come up a little, you can feel the tranny lock up and then you can accellerate. Something tells me that I have a more severe problem brewing. Any more suggestions before I take it to the tranny doc?

I had a problem as you describe - it turned out to be a loose connection to a solenoid on the transfer case according to my dealer.
