I have an old 429 out of a 72 Mercury Marquis. And on the side i have an old 87 ranger that needs an engine, I was just wondering would I be able to drop that 429 down in it or is it just to big. And if I can how much work am I gunna get myself into.
With plenty of time and money you can do it.You will have to do alote of mods to make it fit,A 351 is the biggest you can stuff in a Ranger with out doing a bunch of mods to it.
Umm....maybe an F-150, but I don't think it would be worth it in a Ranger. You'd probably end up having to cut out a good deal of the inner fender, and forget the HVAC system, power steering, etc...
There is a guy that put a 460 in a ranger. I believe that it was james duff or something, anyway, he had to cut a massive chunk out of the firewall, brace the frame a whole bunch, and move the battery to the rear. Needless to say it would not be trivial.
Hey thanks guys i knew that i was lookin at alot of mods but i just wasnt for sure if the frame would hold up or not. If i do go ahead and do it its going to be a certifed strip truck cuz the 429 that im putting in it is nowhere close to stock i think if i would put this one in it it would most likely twist the frame with 1400 hp. But I have a 302 sitting around i might just put that in there and just have an everyday truck to drive
1400hp?? An early 70's (pre-smog) 429 is probably more in the neighborhood of 350-400 hp. You'd be talking about one heck of an engine build to make 1400 hp, even with a 429.
better do some heavy duty beefing up of the frame cuz if you dont..the frame will twist up like a pretzel big time. Find a full sized bronco frame..stuff the motor on that and put the ranger body on top of everything
I think i have a better idea. instead of dropping it in a ranger i think that i might drop it in a 49 ford f-1 that i have come across. one thing is that i know it will fit this time. and i know that my frame will hold up when i got to the strip. If u havent already figured this out im a aspiring drag racer. I am going to try to strip whatever i decide to do. I think if i have 1400hp then i might be able to keep up with some. I know that i have alot of money in this engine already and i plan to put more. I just really hope it will amount to some money to help me get out of debt from the engine that i already have over 20,000 in so maybe it will pay off.
ok G2IC_Wraith, since you wont, i guess i can call that one for bull.
Only because, there is a possibility, that with a Banks twin turbo + custom intercooler you MIGHT make that kind of power. I don't know what the possiblities are with alcohol or methanol.
I guess i will have to take some pictures and send u the dyno test. I guess u cant really say its a true 429 anymore anyway. The block has been bored to its limit. The only reson it cost me so much is that i got it entirely chromed polished and everything was custom made pretty much. but no u cant really get 1400 hp out of a true block and it does have twin turbos and the best intercooler ever made. And i never said it ran on gas and i know that u cant get that much out of it on gas.
