Hello, I have a question. My 1995 f-150 speedometer bounces around. I have changed the sensor in the rear axle and the one in the automatic transmission. My cruise control works, but I cannot use it because the cruise is reading the speedometer and with it bouncing around it speeds up and slows down, very frustrating. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
It sounds like the PSOM, or speedometer head, is going bad. It isn't an uncommon problem. Many times they'll also have a glitch giving the computer a false reading at about 1-2 mph killing the engine at that speed.
You'll need to pull the cluster and take each section out, and replace the center speedometer section. One from a junkyard would be the cheapest route, although your odometer won't be the same. Don't worry about finding one with the same transmission or a tach/no tach, they're all the same.
Yup, a search for "bad PSOM" will find you the answer.
You can usually have a dealership program the mileage and tire size for you so it's correct. I ended up buying a new cluster from Ford and they programmed my mileage and tire size in it. Same thing happened to me brown4x4 talked about in my other F-150.
