Replacement for 2150?
Well, I'm back again and I'm fed up with the new carb I've been messing with for WEEKS now. Anyone know of a good replacement for a 2150 carb? I want something that will fit on the existing manifold and prefer that it has a manual choke. I want the manual choke to operate the fast idle as I do not want to have to install a throttle cable too if I can help it. I might consider one with an auto choke but it would have to really work well.
Cost is somewhat of a factor but I don't care what brand it is a long as it works (by that I mean it starts correctly hot or cold, and idles correctly all the time) and has the potential of getting more than 7 or 8 mpg which is all I get now with the new 2150.
Thanks
Stan
Just got done replacing the cursed motrocraft 2150 POC with a Holley 2300 350CFM carb. MC was remanned with automatic choke, Holley is new with manual choke.
Mileage with the MC was awful at 7.5 mpg and drivability was poor (by that I mean the idle was rough, and didn't start well in the afternoons). Finally got so fed up with trying to nursemaid the MC that I replaced it. Just got done with a preliminary mileage check and the Holley is at 9 mpg. Drivability with the Holley is much better. Idle is smooth choked or not. Starts up easily any time now. Manual choke and fast idle are much more controllable and usable. Now I have full control of when the choke is on, and how long it stays on.
Main reason I went with the Holley is it bolted right on, and had manual choke, and was available new locally. It still has sea level jets in it so if I re-jet the thing I may finally be able to get my mileage up into the low double digits (10-12).
