5W20 Oil

I was reading about the 5W20 oil Ford now recomends. I am using 5W30 now. How much mileage increase would I possibly see from going to the 5W20? Just a thought. Thanks.

I have used both 5w30 and 5w20 in my 3.0 4x4 Ranger. I am getting the best mileage ever (21.5 mpg average over several tanks) using Motorcraft 5w30. This is a very good oil and I see no reason to drop down to a 5w20 (it is a good oil for the record) unless you are still under a warranty.

I usually use valvoline oil 10W40 and 20W50 in winter. My dad was running the same on his 85 ranger and he ran that thing in the ground with 350,000 miles!!! in fact, the engin is still being used on an 87 ranger that my buddy owns. What my question is, is motocraft better? I know the results from using the oil that my dad and I use, and they are terrific. Will my gas mileage increase or engin life increase with motocraft and/or a differ weight oil?? (I have a 1994 ford ranger 4L 4X4)

The heavier the oil, the lower the gas mileage. Whether Valvoline or Motorcraft is better? I think they are both good oils, and should have no problem with either...but that sure is a heavy weight 20W50? I lived 13 years in Michigan, and 10W30 is all I used (Nov-Apr) and I have never had a problem...and still get 19-21 GPM.

You know I made a mistake. I mean't 20W50 in summer and 10W40 in winter. Even with 20W50 i still get 19-20 mpg (I have a 1994 ford ranger 4L 4X4). However, last summer I just kept using 10W40 and I haven't noticed a different. I am worried that with 20W50 I may burn my oil pump out sooner although my dads 85 ranger which he got rid of in 2000!!! never had a pump burn out. Anyways, sorry brother65 for kind of veering off the issue.
