I know this isnt Ford truck related but its general automotive stuff... A while back I replaced the valve cover gasket on my '87 lebaron turbo. A 2.2l 4 banger. My buddy torque'd down one of the valve cover bolts and now the bolt just falls in. So the threads in the head are stripped. It has been leaking oil for some time now and I have been booted from my driveway .... Recently its been leaking 4-5 quarts weekly. What is the best way to fix this>? I have heard about helicoil but i have no idea where to purchase and how to find the correct size... or can jb weld somehow take care of it
your local parts house should have them or better yet go to a napa store they seem to always have everything you might have to drill the hole out and tap it to the next size to put in a helicoil for that to find the correct size ya need take the bolt that falls in to the hole into the store with ya and they should be able to help ya
Good call! I've had to do this to several bolt holes on aluminum heads. The $18 kit comes with the proper drill bit and several springs of the correct thread type. Just drill out the old hole, twist in the spring and the job is done. Good luck, John
