I want to replace my worn bushings on the Front Sway Bar. I need the Sway Bar Links with bushings, right and left, and the Sway bar Frame Mount Bushings (2). Can anyone tell me where to get these? Tried all the local places, with no luck. Vehicle is 94 Aerostar, 4.0L, 2wd.
Are they the Polyurethane bushings? Thats what we couldn't tell at the NAPA store and they are special order. I replaced them at 50K with Polyurethane, and they lasted 100K. Plus better handling out of them, unfortunatly the suspension shop I got them from is no more.
I got end links/bushings from my local Pep Boys. They were red polyurethane types made by Energy, for about $15. Energy also has poly bushings for the frame mount, but it is a very large size that Pep Boys don't normally carry. So it may have to be special ordered. They have a most useful feature; zirk fittings and grease passages in the bushings so you can pump grease into them to prevent squeaks.
The repair books don't have the specs, went to the dealer, they wouldn't/couldn't tell me either. It wouldn't do any good to measure the old ones as they are crushed and distorted. Would just go and pick-up a set of rubber ones, return them and eat the restocking fee, but they are special order, and not returnable. Suspension Connection blew me off when I contacted them (I'm going to call back next week and talk to them again and ask for a supervisior). J. C. Whitney's Sway bar to frame bushings have one size fits all slots in them and I don't think would be good to have them sliding around in the slot! I was hoping someone had replaced theirs and could tell me what they got.

You can. Pull up the suspension connection web site, get the 800 number and give them a call with the year, extended or not, engine size, and 2wd or 4wd. info at hand and see if you can prod customer service to do a little research. If enough of us call maybe they'll wake up.
Well I thought that the Aerostar was built off of the Ranger. It seems to me that if they took the Ranger frame that they would of left all the Suspension pretty much in tack.
Suspension Connection carries the Bushingss for the 83-98 Rangers 2 & 4WD.
Now just go to FORD or Part store of your choise and see if the bushings for the Aerostar and the Ranger have the same part number. If it does then order the kit for the ranger from suspension connection.
The Ranger had the twin I-beam suspension on the front and leaf springs in the back, so it is quite different from the Aerostar.
I read somewhere that the Aerostar is actually based on a mini pickup truck that was built by Mazda, and sold under both the Ford and Mazda brands. It makes more sense, and the suspensions are unlike anything else that Ford has.
As for the the frame bushings for the sway bar, you need a set with inner diameter of about 1-1/4 to 1-5/16 inches. Energy Suspension part number 9-5114 looks like the right size, but may need to be special ordered, as I mentioned in a previous post. It will position the bar a little closer to the frame than stock. The greasable set is part number 9-5167, with the same position. Check out this page:
