Well... if you get a look at the diagram of the EGR, it looks more like a water tap or valve than the 'flap' throttle plate we've also been discussing. If you could ensure that the valve stayed shut, then you could cut the connection between the actuator and the valve ... but you'd need to look at the mechanics to decide what is required.
Some people with Califoria emissions trucks have bought a spare valve ... to connect to the connector ... but not be installed (just tied off under the hood). This does what you suspect --- fools the engine into thinking it has a working EGR.
Thats a good thought. I haven't closely inspected the valve itselft; but the housing appears to be stamped from sheet metal and pressed together. Im not sure how to get it apart. If you could, however, you might be on to something...
But what sends the signal to the EGR calling for it to open up. Is it a sensor in the exhaust tube.
The computer uses many different parameters from the Exhaust Back Pressure and MAP sensors, and the engine load and RPM to calculate the EGR strategy.
He is talking about physically removing the shaft that connects the actuating portion of the valve to the valve body itself to prevent it from opening.
I just put a great pix in my gallery that shows a closeup of the egr valve in a cut-a-way 6.0 psd from International. I have many views of their engine that I will upload today. This was taken about a week ago during the 10th anniversary of the psd at Indy.

Nice photo, you just saved the the trouble of having to attempt to get it apart to look. If you look between where the actual valve is and the actuator on top, there is a shaft running between them. It might be possible to remove the shaft and weld the valve shut; assuming that you can get the case open...
My EGR plug fell off....funny how that happened....must have been made on Monday or something....but any way, it is louder to the good ear the other one didnt notice.....the lag that was present in the turbo before is not as bad......not sure on the A/C thing seems to be the same, but I live in Big "D" where it is HOT all the time....only got 1600m on it right now, and that darn plug fell off at about 700m.....havent noticed a difference in mileage since it fell off, just went on first road trip to Austin and got 15.13 the old school way.....the lie-o-meter said it was gettin 15.7....no IDIOT lights as of yet....I'll give an update after a few more tanks of fuel and an oil change. Tim
Well I did go to Garland schools....but that was along time ago.....I have slept many anight since then.....it really dosent matter to me cause we all know what we mean any how.....uno...lol.
If you wanted rid of the throttle plate AND the crossbar, you could just go to a dealer and order the assembly for the 2003 Build models. Just a straight tube
It would also provide a nice mounting plate for any sort of injector nozzles you need to install, ex. Water, Nitrous, Propane nozzles.
